Frankentein

Frankenstein is Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley's 1818 gothic novel and one of the foundational works of science fiction. The narrative follows Victor Frankenstein, a young scientist consumed by ambition, who becomes obsessed with creating life. His success births a creature of extraordinary intelligence and sensitivity, yet physically grotesque - a being rejected by society and ultimately by his creator, leading to a tragic cycle of vengeance and despair.

Shelley's novel operates on multiple levels: as a horror story, as philosophical inquiry into the nature of humanity and responsibility, and as social commentary on scientific hubris. The creature's eloquent first-person narrative in the novel's second half complicates any simple reading; his eloquence and capacity for emotion expose the arbitrariness of human judgment based on appearance.
