Fourth Wing Books in Order — The Empyrean Series Reading Guide (2026)
Read them in this order. There is no alternative order that works.
- Fourth Wing (2023) — Rs. 845
- Iron Flame (2023) — Rs. 845
- Onyx Storm (2025) — Rs. 845
All three together come to Rs. 2,535. Delivery is free over Rs. 3,000, so adding any book over Rs. 465 ships the whole order free.
Why the order is not optional
Some series can be read out of sequence. This one cannot.
Each book ends on a cliffhanger that the next opens on directly, and the world-building compounds — the rules established in Fourth Wing are subverted in Iron Flame and again in Onyx Storm. Starting at book two means the major reveals land as confusion rather than payoff.
The books
1. Fourth Wing (2023) — Rs. 845
Violet Sorrengail is sent to a war college where riders bond with dragons, and where cadets routinely do not survive training. She was raised for the scribe quadrant, not this. The book that made the series a phenomenon, largely through BookTok.
Start here. Nothing else makes sense without it.
2. Iron Flame (2023) — Rs. 845
Picks up immediately where Fourth Wing ends. Darker, denser, and heavier on politics — several readers find the middle slower than book one, and the last hundred pages are the reason to push through.
3. Onyx Storm (2025) — Rs. 845
The third book, and the most recent. Rebecca Yarros has said the Empyrean series is planned as five books, so this is not the ending.
Is Onyx Storm the last book?
No. The series is planned as five books. Onyx Storm is book three, and books four and five are still to come. If you prefer to wait for a completed series before starting, this is not the moment.
Before you buy — one honest warning
These are adult novels, not young adult. The romance is explicit and the violence is real. The covers and the BookTok framing sometimes suggest otherwise.
If you are buying for a teenager, that is worth knowing before it arrives. Young Adult fantasy is a separate collection.
What to read after
- Sarah J. Maas — A Court of Thorns and Roses. The other pillar of romantasy. We have a full ACOTAR reading order guide.
- Holly Black — The Cruel Prince trilogy, Rs. 1,750 for all three. Sharper, shorter, more political.
- Tahereh Mafi — Shatter Me. See our Shatter Me reading order.
