Need one you can take into the exam hall?
This page is genuinely useful for homework and quick checks. It is useless in an exam — no Pakistani board, no university and no Cambridge centre will let a phone or laptop into the hall. For that you need a physical, non-programmable scientific calculator, and the two that cover almost every syllabus in Pakistan are these:
- Casio FX-82ES Plus — matric, O Level and general school maths. The most-bought calculator we sell, and accepted almost everywhere.
- Casio FX-991EX Classwiz — FSc, A Level, engineering and university. Adds matrices, vectors, equation solving, integration and a much higher-resolution display.
- Texas Instruments BA II Plus — ACCA, CFA and finance. Handles NPV, IRR and amortisation, which scientific models do not.
What this calculator does
- Trigonometry — sin, cos, tan and their inverses, switchable between degrees and radians (tap DEG/RAD).
- Logarithms — log base 10 and natural log.

Powers and roots — x^y for any power, √ for square roots. For a cube root use
8^(1/3). -
Factorials — type the number then n!, so
6!gives 720. - Constants — π and e.
- Memory — M+ adds the current result to memory, MR recalls it, MC clears it. An M appears at the top when memory holds a value.

Brackets — full order of operations, so
2+3×4correctly gives 14, not 20.
Common mistakes this catches
DEG vs RAD. The single most common reason a trigonometry answer comes out wrong. School and college maths in Pakistan is almost always in degrees; calculus and physics at university often switch to radians. The mode is shown at the top of the display — check it before you trust a sin or cos answer.
Order of operations. Typing 2+3*4 gives 14 because multiplication binds first. If you meant (2+3)×4, use the brackets.
Percentages. 200*15% gives 30. To add 15% to 200, type 200+200*15%.

Can I use it in an exam?
No. Phones and laptops are barred from exam halls across Pakistani boards, universities and Cambridge centres. You need a physical non-programmable model — the FX-82ES Plus is the safe default.
Is the Casio FX-991EX allowed in exams?
It is non-programmable and is accepted by most Pakistani boards and Cambridge exams. Always check your own board's current permitted list, because these change.
How do I switch between degrees and radians?
Tap the DEG/RAD key at the top left. The current mode is shown above the keypad.
How do I calculate a cube root?
Use a fractional power: 27^(1/3) gives 3.
